My child/teenager is nervous about their appointment. How do I reduce their anxiety and communicate what to expect?

Many children and teenagers are nervous about going to an unfamiliar setting - this is a completely normal response. To ensure they are well prepared, a social story has been developed to visually display the New Days experience. Please click here to access the New Day’s Social Story.

What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

A Mental Health Treatment Plan (previously known as a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’) is a plan for people with mental health concerns that is written by your GP. Visit your doctor who will assess whether you have any mental health concerns and will benefit from a Mental Health Treatment Plan. The plan identifies what type of health care you need and spells out what you and your doctor have agreed you are aiming to achieve.

How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

Visit your doctor who will assess whether you have a mental health concerns and will benefit from a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Your doctor will ask a few questions, fill in the plan and you will set goals together. Here, you can request the referral to New Days.

Can I claim a rebate from Medicare?

Please see ‘Fees & Rebate’ section here for further information. Medicare rebates are not available for Psycho-educational, ADHD and learning assessments.

Do I need a referral for a Psychological assessment?

No, you do not need a doctor's referral for a Psychological assessment. We are mindful of the cost for each assessment, therefore, we will complete a pre-appointment consultation to determine whether a full diagnostic assessment is appropriate.

If you have a written referral from your GP or Psychiatrist, please forward it to jordan@newdays.au. If you have Private Health Insurance, you may be entitled to a rebate through your provider. We recommend you check with your provider prior to your appointment.

If your child is being referred for an Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Assessment, you may be able to claim up to 4 Medicare rebate sessions under the Helping Children with Autism Plan. This is only available from Paediatricians and Psychiatrists.

Can I book an appointment without a Mental Health Care Plan?
